What is a Sports Therapist

A sport therapist helps injured athletes back to full functionality, irrespective of a person’s age, sport or ability. A qualified sport therapist may give advice on preventing injuries, and can be involved in all aspects of a sporting event; both before, during and after a sporting event. Some roles include:

· Examine and assess musculoskeletal injuries;

· Treat musculoskeletal injuries, aim to alleviate pain, apply various soft tissue therapy treatments;

· Responsible for taping and strapping, and preparing players mentally and physically

· Rehabilitate injuries by using sport and excercise science principles; apparatus and electrotherapy;

· Design and monitor rehabilitation programmes appropriate to specific injuries and sport; and

· Provide pitch side first aid
